HD-AHD Camera Over Coax

High definition over coax technologies use existing coaxial cable to transmit HD video quality. This allows existing systems to upgrade over time to HD without having to rewire the entire system.

1. High Definition

AHD cameras use traditional analog CCTV camera components to capture images and transmit them over long distances. AHD uses a CMOS image sensor to capture images and transmit them over traditional BNC analog CCTV cable. Compared to HD-SDI and HD-TVI, AHD has lower resolutions, but it also has a much smaller footprint and is cheaper than IP cameras. Moreover, AHD cameras can be easily integrated with a hybrid DVR that supports analog, HD-CVI and IP camera systems, which allows you to keep your current CCTV system while upgrading it to HD over time.

2. Long Range Transmission

Unlike IP cameras, HD-AHD (also called AHD-over-Coax) can transmit video, audio and two-way control signals using the existing coax cables. This means you can install a full HD surveillance system with less work and expense than you would with traditional analog CCTV.

This technology is also a lot cheaper than other HD technologies such as HD-CVI and HD-TVI. Another big advantage of AHD is its long range transmission capabilities. Unlike HD-CVI and HD-TVI which degrade in image quality over long distances, AHD maintains its picture clarity at all cable lengths. The following images compare the image quality of AHD, HD-CVI and HD-TVI at various cable lengths. These tests were performed by Clinton Electronics and all cameras were tested with factory default settings.

In the test with strong backlight, AHD performs very well while HD-CVI and HD-TVI degrade significantly in image clarity over the same distance. This is due to the fact that AHD uses a CMOS image sensor instead of CCD. This allows for better performance under harsh conditions.

3. Better Compatibility
